Bio:
Erno ‘Emppu’ Vuorinen is Nightwish’s resident riffmaster and has been with the band since their inception. As well as playing all of the bands guitar parts, Emppu also played bass on the bands debut ‘Angels Fall First’ and has contributed riffs and ideas to a number of Nightwish songs including the likes of ‘Come Cover Me’, ‘Crownless’ and ‘Slaying the Dreamer’.
Emppu first picked up the guitar at the age of twelve, and is largely self-taught. Nightwish was the first major band he played in, although he had previously played with some lesser known musicians. Alongside Nightwish, he has played with Altaria in recent years, although departed from the band in early 2004.
Outside of Nightwish, Emppu states his main hobby to be ‘Just hanging around’ and he is believed to be a bit of a Traditional / Power Metal fan. It is perhaps to be expected then that his favourite concert by a band other than Nightwish is Stratovarius.
Since the recording of ‘Once’ Emppu has been endorsed by ESP guitars and uses their instruments exclusively. On previous albums and tours, he can be seen and heard using Washburn guitars.
